I’m most happy when I’m telling interesting stories. When someone has a story like Bertony’s it’s like being a kid in a candy store.
Bertony and I have a few connections so when we met up for this shoot, I felt like I had a pretty solid idea of what we’d be doing, but his presence, story, and passion blew me away. We talked a lot during the shoot and one thing he said really stuck with me- “I’m always coming back to question- ‘What are we really doing?’ “
Everything about Abbey Creek is on purpose. There’s generations of Haitian American History, and a depth to his story that I wanted to tell with these images. I think it worked.
